5th European Congress of Conservation Biology, Jyväskylä, Finland

We are back from Finland were several team members as well as colleagues from CIBIO-InBIO have attended the 5th European Congress of Conservation Biology, organized by the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, from the 12th to the 15th of June 2018. This participation was highlighted at the CIBIO-InBIO website.

This was an amazing opportunity for Sónia Ferreira to present recent advances in the use of DNA metabarcoding to unravel the hidden biodiversity in the Mediterranean Basin. She gave a talk on the subject during the session entitled “Key conservation issues in Mediterranean-type regions of the world: a focus on Europe and North Africa“. It was also during this session that Pedro Beja, EnvMetagen ERA Chair coordinator, gave a talk entitled “Priority questions for biodiversity conservation in the Mediterranean Basin“.

Other than extremely prolific on the scientific side, the event also had some surprises on the social side. In fact, we have discovered Pedro’s abilities with a guitar, during the jam session organized on Wednesday evening.
