EnvMetaGen is the first Portuguese team to participate to the Global Malaise Program

We’re very proud to participate as contributors to The Global Malaise Program (GMP), an international collaboration between the Center for Biodiversity Genomics in Canada and multiples contributors from countries all over the world.

Sónia Ferreira is leading the project on our side and has installed 2 Malaise traps this week, one near the laboratory, in Vila do Conde, representing the Eurosiberian biogeographic region, and another one in Vimioso, next to Sabor river, representing the Mediterranean biogeographic region. This installation integrates Portugal as the 28th country participating to the Program.

With the help of all team members (you can see Joana Paupério in the picture) the samples will be collected every week for 1 year, in order to obtain detailed temporal and spatial information on terrestrial arthropod communities in these two regions of Portugal. More information about the expected impact of this collaboration can be found here (in Portuguese).
