Renewal of EDP Biodiversity Chair

The EDP Biodiversity Chair, awarded to the University of Porto is a public-private collaboration between Pedro Beja, the EnvMetaGen ERA Chair Coordinator and EDP, the main electricity company in Portugal. This collaboration is funded by EDP and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and develops scientific research dedicated to managing environmental impacts and conserving biodiversity, focusing on the application of new genomic tools and Environmental DNA – eDNA techniques.

This initiative had a first phase between 2012 and 2016 and has contributed to promote scientific innovation, technology and environmental management that can be shared with the entire scientific community, government agencies, the business world and the general public. It’s renewal has been announced by EDP on a press release, and has attracted media attention.
