From South Africa to Portugal
Within the frame of EnvMetaGen’s WP4, one of the goals is to set standards for building and organizing reference collections of DNA sequences. For that reason, the development of an insect DNA barcode reference collection has been initiated even before the onset of the project. Under this research line, a new study authored by CIBIO-InBIO collaborator Martin Corley and researcher Sónia Ferreira within the project EnvMetaGen project confirmed that a moth from the southern hemisphere is now a resident in central Portugal, captivating the media attention at the international level, and showing the potential for DNA barcoding to generate information that attract much public interest.
