A new moth species in Portugal

Field work performed in Northern Portugal for the study of the diet of bats through the analysis of DNA from feces has led to the discovery of a new moth species.

The genetic evidence of the new species was observed in droppings of Rhinolophus bats, so the researchers named the new moth Ypsolopha rhinolophi. The resultant article, where Y. rhinolophi was described, appeared in several press publications in May 2019.

More recently, on July 9th, Sónia Ferreira gave an interview to Porto Canal TV show “Mentes que brilham” that can be found here.
